Summary of some research projects presented at INTER 2014
The inaugural International Network on Timber Engineering Research (INTER) meeting was held at University of Bath from 31st August to 4th September 2014. Around 70 leading timber researchers from around the world participated at the event. Twenty one technical papers and a number of technical notes were presented and discussed over three days of technical presentations, at the end of which a compendium of research papers was published as the proceedings of the 47th meeting for this research group.
Six of these papers were selected for this first TRADA Research Summary based on this event. Readers are invited to visit the CIB home page (http://cib-w18.com) and browse through the titles of all the papers presented so far.
Summary of selected timber research projects presented at World Conference on Timber Engineering 2016
The World Conference on Timber Engineering 2016 was a major event for structural timber research and development. This Research Summary discusses a selection of the presentations, covering topics such as:
- product innovation
- structural use of hardwoods
- use of timber in Japan
- system build
- building performance, and
- engineering problems.
What is hybrid construction? And how can it be used to create sustainable and versatile buildings? This publication answers these questions by looking at different types of structural engineered timber in effective combinations with other materials, as illustrated by recent case studies. From straightforward projects to complex design briefs, hybrid...
The Eurocodes are a series of standards that establish common rules across the European Economic Area (EEA) for structural design using any material. They allow a designer to prove compliance with the requirements of the European Construction Product Regulation and national Building Regulations.
