State of Trade Survey 2016 Q1
Both heavy side and light side construction product manufacturers reported a twelfth consecutive quarter of sales growth in the first quarter of 2016. On the heavy side, 31% of firms reported a quarterly increase in sales, the highest balance in three quarters. Conversely, 13% of light side firms reported a rise in sales, which was the lowest balance in 12 quarters. This reflects the weaker activity reported by the heavy side, at the start of the supply chain, towards the end of 2015. Manufacturers’ expectations for sales over the next quarter remained positive, although heavy and light side balances deteriorated from Q4, amidst uncertainty in the run-up to the EU referendum in June.
