Wood used in joinery: The UK mass balance and efficiency in use

TRADA image

This report forms part of the Biffaward Programme on Sustainable Resource Use. The joinery sector purchases the greater part of its wood in the form of raw timber rather than manufactured products, and at nearly 650,000 tonnes in 2000, approximately four times more softwood is purchased than hardwood. Other raw materials are purchased in smaller quantities with about 50,000 tonnes of particleboard and MDF being purchased and less than 20,000 tonnes of chipboard.
