Reinstatement of timber frame buildings after fire

TRADA image

This research information sheet aims to guide the reader through the assessment and reinstatement of fire damage timber platform framed buildings, irrespective of size. The scale of damage considered ranges from very slight (requiring only cosmetic repair) to severe, where whole structural elements must be replaced.

It also contains a series of flowcharts which promote a methodical approach to the assessment of damage based on each type of structural element guiding the assessor through a series of steps towards reinstatement based on the premise that "if it was there in the first place, put it back".

This research information sheet was produced as a result of a "Partners in Innovation" project funded by Government and Industry to provide guidelines for the reinstatement of fire damaged timber frame buildings. The six-storey timber framed TF2000 building located at BRE Cardington was used as a test bed.
